The Pronunciation Lexicon Specification (PLS) is a specification that can be used by speech recognition and text-to-speech software. The pronunciations of the words are inside the PLS document. It is possible that one word has several pronunciations. The PLS document can be referenced by languages like the Speech Synthesis Markup Language or the Speech Recognition Grammar Specification.
